Irish Fair Information for volunteers:

Thank you for your generous assistance in this event! Please read the following information closely, as it contains everything you need to know to work at the Irish Fair this weekend. I want to stress three things:
- Be prepared for the weather. You should bring rain gear, water, sunscreen, etc. to be prepared for any weather scenario as you will be outside during the entirety of your shift.
- Arrive early for your shift. Fill your position until the next volunteer arrives to relieve you. You will need to park in a designated area and walk to the main gate to check in. Please allow time for the expected Irish Fair traffic and street closures near the event. Double-check the wiki to ensure you know what time and day you have committed to. http://boatclub.wikidot.com/irish-fair-2011
- You must sign in at the designated area inside the main gate for MBC to receive credit for your work; you must sign out at the end of your shift. You will sign in specifically for one of the designated lots/tasks and will pick up a volunteer tshirt. You may care to bring a cell phone with you in case you do not have a walkie assigned to you during your shift; see below for phone numbers for designated Irish Fair personnel. You must return to this area at the end to sign out for your shift so event organizers have a record of your hours.
All questions during your shift and throughout the weekend should go to Angela Mens Eastman, Irish Fair coordinator. See below for complete information regarding where to park, where to check in, basic information you should know in case guests ask, how to get in touch with event organizers during your shift, etc. In addition, when you check in, you may be given the option to assist the Irish Fair organizers with some market research surveys en lieu of the “parking lot management” task; it’s your choice.

See below for complete volunteer information:

2011 Irish Fair
Volunteer Information
Thank you for assisting the Irish Fair of Minnesota. Should you have an issue while volunteering please contact Angela Mens-Eastman at 651-323-3911 for assistance or reach her on Channel 1 on an event radio. We have two different volunteer opportunities in 2011. The first is parking lot management, which is pretty low impact, not a lot of customer interaction, similar to last year. The second opportunity is to assist us with Market Research Surveys. For this job you will be asking guests at the event to fill out a brief survey. This is for RESEARCH PURPOSES only. There is no solicitation with this (not asking for personal emails or phone numbers or anything else). The surveys are anonymous and voluntary. We are trying to gather demographic data about who attends the fair. For this position your will be given a University of Minnesota T-shirt (that you can keep). Please think about which capacity you might like to work in and we will do our best to get you in that location at the beginning of your shift.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your shift.
Before you start your shift:
1. You may park in the volunteer parking lot located at HealthPartners on Plato and Wabasha in the back area of the lot. Please do not park near the main entrance as this is an urgent care clinic. There is limited space on the Mn. Boat Club side of the island. Once it is full all volunteers will have to use the HealthPartners lot.
2. Walk or take a golf cart shuttle to Harriet Island to check in (inside main gate).
3. Be sure to sign in at the volunteer tent located on your left inside the main gate. Pick a location to work based on the daily sign in sheet. There are 6 locations to volunteer at.
4. Get a t-shirt (Irish Fair or U of M).
5. Head out to your work location. Bring all of the things you will need for your shift: chair, water, sunscreen, bug spray, umbrella, rain gear etc. Use the restroom before starting your shift. Should you need a break, please call Angela Mens-Eastman on her cell phone at 651-323-3911.
Parking FAQ’s
1. Where is the handicap parking? On Water St. Drivers may drop off inside the park, but may not stay and park inside Harriet Island lots.
2. Where is the information tent? Inside the main gate.
3. Does everyone need a parking pass? Yes! Anyone who works at Harriet Island (Showboat employees, RiverBoat Grill employees, Padelford employees) must have a purple hanging pass on their rearview mirror. This must be displayed on their mirror. They MUST be granted parking.
4. What do the different color passes mean that people have on their dashboards? There are multiple parking locations, colors of passes etc. Be sure you know the color pass for your lot for each day as they change daily. These passes must be displayed on the front driver’s side dashboard.
5. What do I do with an unhappy customer or vendor? Call Angela Mens-Eastman on her cell phone (651-323-3911) and she will respond.
6. What if someone parks in the yellow drop off zone? Go up to them immediately and remind them this is a no parking zone and they will be tagged or towed. We have police on site who will issue tickets on the spot. Call Angela for police.
7. When can I leave my shift? Please wait to leave your shift until your replacement arrives. If no one shows up 15 minutes past your shift end time call Angela Mens-Eastman. Obviously if you are the last shift you can leave at the end. Please be sure to sign out as this is the only way to know what to reimburse the Boat Club for.
8. What if someone is mean or blows by me in a car? Get their license number, car description and call Angela.

Showboat Lot (East End of the Park)
Yacht Club (residents) – May park in the long skinny lot on the east end. They must have a Yacht Club hanging pass on their rearview mirror. If they have a sticker on their back window that is not valid. Yacht Club guests must park in the Upper Harbor Lot located at the west end of the park and they can walk through the event to get to their friends boat.
Centennial Showboat - Guests who are going to the Centennial Showboat to see a play on Friday and Saturday night may park in the lots. There are shows on the Showboat at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m on Friday and Saturday. There are no shows on Sunday.
RiverBoat Grill – This is a restaurant that is open to the public. There is a 2 hour limit on their parking passes and this will be enforced. The time they entered the lot will be written on their dashboard pass.
Covington Inn- This is a hotel bed and breakfast located in the tugboat next to the showboat. There are 4 guest rooms. Their guests and employees should have a purple hanging pass.
Minnesota Boat Club – There may be private rentals for at the MBC. If so, they may only park in the MBC lot or on Raspberry Island. When the spots are full at the MBC and Raspberry Island people will have to find other parking arrangements.
Overflow Parking – Once the lots are full and guests of Harriet Island Vendors need a place to park they can park in the Ramsey County Lot located at 90 W. Plato and take a golf cart shuttle back to the island.
Padelford Lot (West End of Park)
Padelford - The Padelford Boats have many charter cruises going out throughout the weekend. Padelford guests may park in the north side of the west lot. The south side of the lot is for Irish Fair permit holders only.
Yacht Club Guests and Owners – Must park in the Upper Harbor Lot located about 1 block east of the Plato and Ohage intersection. They are to permitted to park in the west lot during Irish Fair.
Overflow Parking – Once the lots are full and guests of Harriet Island Vendors need a place to park they can park in the Ramsey County Lot located at 90 W. Plato and take a golf cart shuttle back to the island.
